Builder & Founder of RenoCalc • 32 Years on the Tools • Coventry, UK
Pindi Sahota started in the building trade in 1992. Over the next three decades he worked across plastering, general building, full house renovations, extensions, loft conversions and commercial refurbishments. In 2019 he founded Future Build Cov Ltd. In 2023 he built RenoCalc — the AI quoting tool he always needed but could never find.
Every builder I know wastes hours every week writing quotes that could be done in minutes. I built RenoCalc because I was one of them, and I was sick of it.
Pindi Sahota — Builder, 32 years • Founder, RenoCalc
Pindi Sahota started as a plasterer in Coventry in the early 1990s. He learned the trade properly — wet plaster on solid walls, floating and setting, artex removal, dot and dab — before broadening into general building work. Over three decades he has managed renovation projects ranging from single-room refurbishments to full house gut-outs, property developments, HMO conversions and commercial office fits.
That breadth of experience is what makes his writing different. When Pindi writes about how to quote a bathroom renovation, he isn't drawing on theory. He's drawing on hundreds of bathroom quotes, the jobs that went over budget, the ones that didn't, and the hard lessons that came with both. Every article on RenoCalc is written from direct trade experience, not borrowed from someone else's content.
Based in Coventry, he is the director of Future Build Cov Ltd (Company No. 12311977, VAT 470961573), registered at 242 Hollyfast Road, Coundon, Coventry CV6 2AH.
The frustration started slowly. Every time a client asked for a quote, Pindi would go home, open a spreadsheet, and start working through the rooms. Measure from the floor plan. Calculate plaster area. Work out tiling. Price the materials. Add labour. Do it again for the next room. Repeat for every trade.
Two hours. Sometimes three. For a single quote. And if the client wanted a revision — a smaller kitchen, a different specification — it meant going through the whole thing again.
In 2023, Pindi started building RenoCalc. Not as a software project in the conventional sense — he brought in technical partners for the development — but as a product built entirely around a builder's requirements. Every feature in RenoCalc exists because he needed it. The AI floor plan scanner. The trade-by-trade breakdown. The Excel output. The cover letter. The method statements. The schedule of works. All of it.
The result is software that turns a floor plan image into a complete professional quote pack — ready to send to a client — in under three minutes. Builders in over 150 countries now use it.
Every article Pindi publishes on RenoCalc is grounded in the specific knowledge that comes from three decades of building work. He writes about renovation costs, construction quoting, trade pricing, estimating software and the business side of running a building firm — all from a first-person perspective.
He also writes about the costly mistakes that come with the trade. His article on the £400,000 job that nearly finished him is one of the most widely read pieces on the site — because it's real, and because every builder recognises something in it.
Written from 32 years of trade experience. Every cost figure, every trade breakdown, every pricing method — verified from the tools.
