Not a startup studio. Not a tech company. A builder with 32 years on the tools who got tired of wasting evenings on spreadsheets — and built the software he needed.

My name is Pindi Sahota. I'm a builder based in Coventry, UK. I've been in the trade for over 32 years — plastering, general building, full renovations, extensions, loft conversions, HMO conversions, commercial refits. I know what it's like to be on site at 7am and still writing quotes at 11pm.
Every builder knows this problem. A client asks for a quote. You drive home, open a spreadsheet, start measuring off the floor plan, calculating material quantities, pricing labour, working out which trades go in which order. Two hours. Sometimes three. Then the client wants to change the spec, and you do it all again.
I built RenoCalc because I was exhausted by that cycle. Not theoretically — I was doing it personally, every week, for decades. In 2023, I stopped accepting it and built the tool I always needed.
The idea was simple: upload a floor plan image, let AI handle the measurement and calculation, and produce a complete professional quote pack — the kind a client can read and say yes to, and a builder can use to start work with. That meant not just a price, but a trade-by-trade cost breakdown, a cover letter, method statements, a schedule of works. Everything.
I've made mistakes in business — big ones. One of them nearly cost me everything. Those experiences shaped how I think about tools for builders: they have to be practical, honest, and genuinely save time. No fluff. No overcomplicated dashboards. Just a faster way to get good work out the door and get home on time.
The Problem We Solve
Before RenoCalc, getting a professional quote out the door meant hours of manual work. Here's what that looked like — and what it looks like now.
In the early 2020s, Pindi started looking at what AI could do with construction documents. He had seen the same floor plan arrive in different formats from dozens of estate agents, architects and clients — PDFs, JPEGs, hand-drawn sketches. Every time, someone had to measure it manually and transfer those numbers into a pricing sheet.
The question became: could AI read a floor plan accurately enough to generate real construction costs? After prototyping and testing, the answer was yes — if the system was built by someone who actually knew how UK builders price work. Not a generic cost-per-square-metre guess, but a genuine trade-by-trade breakdown covering plastering, tiling, carpentry, electrics, plumbing, decoration and everything in between. See how AI calculates renovation quotes.
RenoCalc launched in 2023. It was built from the ground up to produce outputs that a builder could hand to a client without modification — professional in appearance, accurate in numbers, and fast to generate. The construction methodology behind every quote reflects real UK trade practices, not theoretical cost guides. Within months, builders outside the UK found it. By 2025, RenoCalc had reached builders in over 150 countries.
The product is still shaped by the same person who built it. Every feature request is assessed against one question: does this make the quoting process faster and more reliable for builders? If not, it doesn't make it in.

Builder & Founder of RenoCalc • Director, Future Build Cov Ltd • 32 Years in the Trade
Pindi started in the building trade in the early 1990s as a plasterer in Coventry. Over three decades he expanded into general building, full house renovations, extensions, loft conversions, HMO conversions and commercial refurbishments. He has managed dozens of projects from inception to completion, written hundreds of construction quotes, and learned — the hard way — what happens when pricing goes wrong.
He built RenoCalc in 2023 to solve the quoting problem he faced every week. He still runs an active construction business and reviews all content on this site for accuracy. When RenoCalc says a bathroom renovation costs a certain amount, it's because Pindi has priced that bathroom type many times over.
