RenoCalc Version History: What We've Built and Where We're Going

A transparent record of every major release — from the first floor plan upload to the current AI-powered estimation engine — and what's on the roadmap next.

Our Commitment to Transparency

RenoCalc was built by Pindi Sahota — a builder with 32 years of direct experience in the UK construction industry. Every version of this product has been informed by real feedback from contractors, sole traders, and small firms who use it on actual jobs.

This page documents the evolution of the product honestly — including what changed, what improved, and what we're still working on. We believe builders deserve to know exactly what they're using and how it's been developed. No vague marketing language; just a clear record of the work.

Version History

From first release to current build

v4.0 — Current AI Accuracy Improvements Released March 2026

The most significant architectural update since launch. Version 4.0 introduced a retrained AI estimation model with substantially improved accuracy on complex multi-storey projects, non-rectangular floor plans, and properties with extensions. Material pricing data is now drawn from a wider set of UK regional supplier indices.

v3.5 Mobile Experience Overhaul September 2025

A complete rebuild of the mobile interface following feedback that the original mobile experience was not optimised for use on site — where most builders are working from a phone with one hand. Version 3.5 made RenoCalc a genuinely mobile-first tool.

  • Redesigned mobile UI with larger touch targets and simplified navigation
  • Camera-first floor plan capture — photograph a plan directly from the in-app camera
  • Offline draft saving — continue working without a signal and sync when connected
  • Mobile-optimised PDF preview before sending to clients
  • Push notifications for document generation completion
  • Google Play Store listing updated with new screenshots and feature descriptions
v3.0 Material Price Library February 2025

The introduction of a live material price library was the single most-requested feature from contractors who had found that their own mental benchmarks for material costs had drifted from current market prices. Version 3.0 gave contractors a continuously updated reference point across all major material categories.

  • UK material price library covering 400+ line items across all major trade categories
  • Prices updated quarterly from UK supplier and distributor data
  • Regional price adjustment for London and South East premium
  • Override capability — contractors can substitute their own negotiated rates
  • Material cost comparison view showing current vs previous quarter pricing
  • Export material schedule separately from labour estimate
v2.5 Method Statement Generation July 2024

Method statements were added in response to feedback from contractors bidding on tender work, where a method statement was increasingly required alongside the price submission. Version 2.5 extended the document pack to include a trade-specific method statement structured around the job's actual scope.

  • Automated method statement generation from the project scope and selected trades
  • Templates covering groundworks, structural, first fix, second fix, and finishing trades
  • Site-specific fields — access, working hours, waste management, health and safety provisions
  • Risk assessment summary integrated into method statement output
  • Document pack now includes: quote, BoQ, schedule of works, cover letter, and method statement
v2.0 Document Pack Generation January 2024

Version 2.0 was the defining upgrade that transformed RenoCalc from an estimation tool into a complete quoting system. The introduction of automatic document generation meant that a floor plan scan could produce a full professional quote pack within three minutes — without any manual formatting or word processing.

  • One-click PDF generation of the full quote pack — cover letter, itemised estimate, and schedule of works
  • Branded cover letter with client name, project address, and contractor details auto-populated
  • Itemised Bill of Quantities with trade sections, quantities, rates, and totals
  • Schedule of works showing trade sequence and estimated programme
  • Email delivery directly from the app with professional subject line and body copy
  • Revision history — keep track of previous versions of the same quote
v1.5 Multi-Trade Calculation Engine June 2023

The original v1.0 produced a single-figure estimate. Version 1.5 broke the estimation engine into trade-level categories, allowing contractors to see the breakdown by discipline — and giving a much more useful basis for managing subcontractor quotations and identifying where their own price was strong or weak.

  • Estimates broken down across 12 trade categories: groundworks, structural, masonry, carpentry, roofing, insulation, plastering, tiling, electrics, plumbing, decoration, and externals
  • Labour and materials shown separately within each trade section
  • Prelims and contingency calculated as percentage allowances on top of trade costs
  • Trade totals exportable for use in subcontractor comparison
  • Specification notes field added to each trade section
v1.0 Initial Release — Floor Plan Upload and Basic Estimate January 2023

The first version of RenoCalc — the proof of concept that the core idea worked. A builder could photograph or upload a floor plan and receive an AI-generated construction estimate in minutes. The estimate was a single figure with a high/low range, and the tool was deliberately simple to validate the fundamental value proposition.

  • Floor plan image upload and AI-powered room detection
  • Gross internal area (GIA) calculation from the floor plan
  • Single-figure renovation estimate with indicative range (low, mid, high)
  • Basic project summary report
  • Web-based access — no app required at launch

Product Roadmap

What we're building next — in priority order

In Development

Quarterly Regional Price Updates

Material and labour price data updated every quarter across all UK regions — South East, Midlands, North West, North East, Yorkshire, South West, Wales, and Scotland — so contractor estimates stay aligned with actual current market rates, not last year's figures.

Planned — 2026

BIM Integration

Direct import of IFC and Revit files from BIM models, allowing RenoCalc to generate estimates directly from design-stage 3D building information models. Targeted at contractors working with architects on mid-size residential and light commercial projects who are already producing BIM drawings.

Planned — 2026

White-Label for Larger Firms

A white-label version of RenoCalc for larger contracting firms — branded with the contractor's own logo, colours, and company details throughout the document pack. Includes a multi-user seat model for estimating departments with several staff producing quotes concurrently.

Planned — 2027

API for Developers

A RESTful API allowing software developers and larger firms to integrate RenoCalc's estimation engine into their own systems — CRM platforms, project management tools, and bespoke quoting workflows. Documented endpoints for floor plan submission, estimate retrieval, and document generation.

Under Review

Live Subcontractor Rate Database

A crowd-sourced, anonymised database of real subcontractor rates submitted by RenoCalc users — allowing contractors to benchmark their own labour rates against regional averages for each trade. Opt-in contribution model with full anonymisation before publication.

Under Review

Contract Integration

Direct generation of a simple JCT Minor Works-style contract from the accepted quote, pre-populated with the agreed scope, price, start date, and payment schedule. Designed for sole traders and small firms who currently have no written contract in place for domestic renovation work.

Our Commitment to Accuracy and Continuous Improvement

RenoCalc's estimates are based on real construction data built up over 32 years of active site experience across the UK. But we are not complacent about accuracy. Construction costs move — sometimes fast — and an estimate that was accurate six months ago can be misleading today if material prices have shifted significantly.

We track our estimation accuracy against actual final account data provided (voluntarily and anonymously) by users. Where we identify systematic over or under-estimation in specific work types or regions, we retrain the model or update the price library accordingly.

If you spot an estimate that seems materially wrong compared to your own experience on site, please tell us. Every piece of real-world data makes the tool more accurate for every builder who uses it.

Price Data

Material prices updated quarterly from UK supplier indices across all regions.

Model Training

AI estimation model retrained on actual UK construction project data — not industry averages.

Feedback Loop

User-reported discrepancies reviewed and incorporated into model updates.

Transparency

Estimates show a range, not just a single figure — because no estimate is ever exactly right.
