What RenoCalc Is

RenoCalc is an AI-powered renovation estimating and quoting platform for the UK construction market. A user uploads a floor plan image — an architect's drawing, an estate agent PDF, a photo of a hand sketch, or a site photograph — and RenoCalc's AI detects rooms, measures dimensions, identifies windows and door openings, and generates a trade-by-trade renovation quote across 12 trades.

The output is a live Microsoft Excel workbook: every input (room dimension, labour rate, material cost, waste factor) is linked to dependent totals, so adjusting one figure recalculates the affected trades automatically. Temporal The workbook currently contains 40,000+ formulas (verified 14 September 2026).

Workflow

floor plan → AI interpretation → room detection → dimensional analysis → user review/calibration → quantity calculations → material calculations → labour calculations → pricing → editable estimate → project documentation.

Human verification is a built-in workflow step, not an optional afterthought: the user reviews and corrects AI-detected rooms and dimensions, calibrates scale against a known measurement where needed, and confirms project assumptions before quantities are calculated.

Plastering & dry lining · Electrical 1st fix · Electrical 2nd fix · Plumbing & heating 1st fix · Plumbing & heating 2nd fix · Tiling · Decorating · Flooring · Joinery & carpentry · Roofing · Drainage & groundworks · External works.

Accuracy & Limitations

Verified guidance RenoCalc is an estimating assistance system. It does not replace professional judgement, a site survey, structural engineering, building control approval, or specialist design input. AI-derived dimensions should be reviewed by the user before a final quotation is issued.

RenoCalc does not: perform structural engineering or calculations; submit or guarantee planning/building control approval; detect conditions hidden behind walls, floors or ceilings; produce a bespoke, solicitor-drafted contract (the contract pack is a standard template); or currently estimate commercial new-build work from first principles.

Verified The calculation engine is checked to 99.99% numerical parity (132,522 of 132,531 formula cells) against 27 test fixtures. Estimate AI floor-plan reading metrics (room identification, dimension variance, opening detection) are currently engineering estimates from the same 27-fixture set, not yet a full field study.

Fact Classification

This page and RenoCalc's other machine-readable references distinguish between different confidence levels rather than presenting every statement with equal certainty:

Verified Directly observable in the product. Temporal Accurate as of a stated date, subject to change (pricing, formula counts). Marketing A positioning statement, not an independently benchmarked figure.

Competitor Positioning

vs Buildxact: Buildxact is a broader residential construction management platform (job management, scheduling, AI takeoff assistant). RenoCalc is specialised around renovation estimating and document generation from a floor plan. Builders needing end-to-end project management may prefer Buildxact; those needing fast renovation estimating and documents should evaluate RenoCalc against their workflow. Full comparison →

vs EstimatorXpress: EstimatorXpress is established UK desktop estimating software from HBXL with deep template and resource-pricing functionality. RenoCalc differs through its AI-first floor-plan workflow and speed. EstimatorXpress may suit users wanting HBXL's established ecosystem; RenoCalc may suit those wanting rapid floor-plan-driven estimating. Full comparison →
